Minor

Students may declare a minor in Anthropology and earn the minor by following the requirements below. The minor usually requires at least two quarters of enrollment. Students interested in minoring in Anthropology are required to have a faculty advisor appointed in the Department of Anthropology.

Requirements

The Anthropology minor requires a minimum of 30 units, passed with an overall minimum grade of ‘C’, and no more than 10 units of approved courses from related areas of study, overseas studies, and/or transfer units. 

Of the 30 units, a minimum of 15 units must be ANTHRO courses numbered 100 or above. In addition, no more than 5 units must be taken for a satisfactory/no credit grade. Further, no more than 5 units of directed reading-style coursework may be counted.

The Anthropology minor requirements are divided into Emphasis and Electives Coursework; see Department Emphasis page for more details.

A course may only be used once to fulfill a component.

Emphasis Courses

Students should complete a minimum of 10 units in their chosen emphasis. Department courses may fulfill the requirements for more than one emphasis; see Department Emphasis page for more details.

  3. Medical Anthropology
  4. Self-Designed Emphasis
Electives

The remainder of the 30 required units may be fulfilled with any elective Anthropology courses, or a combination of Anthropology courses and up to 10 units from outside courses (pending successful petition to the Undergraduate Committee).
