Johanna’s research interests concern questions of migration and human mobility, globalization and intercultural relations. Her last project looked at globalization in the maritime industry, in particular how globalizing processes, such as flag changes and the flexibilization of seafaring labour, articulate in the everyday lives of seafarers. With her current project, she intends to move from the sea to the shore. By taking vulnerable coastlines as her point of departure, she will explore how local responses to the current global environmental crisis interact with various forms of movement and displacement. Johanna has a BA in Anthropology and Études Françaises from Concordia University, Canada, and an MA in socio-cultural anthropology from Stockholm University, Sweden and Université Lumière Lyon II, France.
