Hector Miguel Callejas

Dr. Hector M. Callejas is an IDEAL Provostial Fellow in the Department of Anthropology at Stanford University. He received his Ph.D. in Ethnic Studies from the University of California, Berkeley. He is an interdisciplinary scholar of race, Indigeneity, politics, culture, and the environment, with a focus on Central America. His research and teaching cover comparative ethnic studies, sociocultural anthropology, and Latin American studies. He uses critical theory and ethnographic methods to examine the politics of race and Indigeneity and the effects on ordinary people and their surroundings. He has two projects in El Salvador. His current project is on Indigenous movements, national multiculturalism, and public commemoration. His next project is on transnational migration, national security, and traditional ecological knowledge. His work is broadly interested in understanding contemporary issues of resistance, decolonization, and justice from the perspectives of Indigenous peoples and other racialized minorities.
