Research Interests:
City planning and urban renewal, gentrification, politics, the fashion industry, southern France

My research focuses on the relationship between urban renewal, political discourse, and the art of living together. By tracing social relations often concealed by the spectacle of the revitalized city, I emphasize the centrality of networks in discursive understandings and the material production of urban transformation. My fieldwork in Marseille, France concentrates on the EuroMéditerranée Urban Renovation to examine the role of diverse actors including state and city officials, fashion industry leaders, and neighborhood associations in the battle over the production, meaning, and use of urban space. I received my BA from Eugene Lang in Sociology and went on to to do graduate work in Anthropology at The New School for Social Research.
