I am interested in exploring the archaeology of the African Diaspora in Portugal to discuss how memories of the recent colonial past impact interpretations of the lives of enslaved Africans in the archaeological record. By looking at community-based efforts to reinterpret and memorialize these African diasporic sites, I hope to delve further into questions of descendance within historic archaeology. I graduated from Columbia University in 2021 with a B.A. in Anthropology and Evolutionary Biology of the Human Species. Since graduating, I have gained archaeological field and lab experience through work with the National Park Service and at James Madison's Montpelier.
