Amrapali Maitra
Amrapali Maitra, MD, PhD, is a physician, anthropologist, and writer. She is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Stanford University, where she studies and writes about violence, care, and bodies across cultures. She completed her BA in History and Literature at Harvard, her MD and PhD in Anthropology at Stanford, and her residency and fellowship in internal medicine in Brigham and Women's Hospital / Harvard Medical School. Dr. Maitra teaches undergraduate courses in the medical humanities and supervises medical students and residents on the hospital wards. Her first book of nonfiction, Sita's Lament, is under contract with Princeton University Press.
