Social science researchers are increasingly enlisting computer-driven analysis to help their research and Anthropology is no exception. A wealth of digitized material has opened up opportunities for computer-assisted analysis. Equally, a growing variety of tools have begun to lower the threshold of expertise required to computationally process large datasets.

In this brown bag I will address the question of how and to what extent computation might play a role in anthropological scholarship. Two works-in-progress will serve as case studies: a geographic and textual analysis of Marx' "Kapital" and the exploration of 150,000 archaeological images with AI and computer vision.
