The Center for Global Ethnography
This panel will explore the intersections of ethnography and archival research, broadly defined. In the first half of the conversation, Trinidad Rico (Art History, Rutgers) will speak with Gabrielle Hecht (History, Stanford), Lynn Meskell (Anthropology, Penn), and Miyako Inoue (Anthropology, Stanford) about the nuts-and-bolts of working with documents, archives, and historical collections. The session will give additional attention to the ways in which these modes of research can relate to ethnographic practices. Along these lines, the panel will discuss the potentially complementary roles and disjuncture of these different modes of inquiry and the findings they produce. The second part of the session will be open to audience questions.
