Ph.D. Minor Program
University requirements for the Ph.D. minor are described in the Graduate Degrees section of this Bulletin.
To request the Ph.D. minor in Anthropology:
Identify a Ph.D. minor advisor from the Department of Anthropology tenure-line faculty. Submit the Department of Anthropology, Ph.D. Minor Request form detailing the proposed Ph.D. minor program request.
Submit a University Application for Ph.D. minor, outlining a program of study approved by the major and minor departments, via Axess eForms. This form is submitted at the time of admission to candidacy. The Department of Anthropology requires an ANTHRO faculty advisor for the Ph.D. minor who can serve as a member on the University oral examination committee.
The requirements for the Ph.D. Minor in the Department of Anthropology include the following:
- Complete 30 units of ANTHRO subject code courses at the 300 level with a minimum letter grade of ‘B+’, or higher.
- Interested Stanford Ph.D. students may choose from a Self-designed focus in Anthropology, or from a focus in Archaeology.

Approval by the Graduate Program Committee for a request for the Ph.D. minor is made by submission of the Ph.D. minor Request form.
Approval by the Ph.D. minor advisor of a coherent plan of study is confirmed by submission of the First-year Ph.D., Ph.D. minor, or M.A. Student Plan of Study form.
Approval by the Graduate Program Committee for completion of the Ph.D. minor is confirmed by submission of the First-year Ph.D., Ph.D. minor, or M.A. Student Report of Degree Progress form.
